Anchor care home colleagues win top regional award in East of England and West Midlands at the Great British Care Awards
We are proud to announce that Rolando Jr Legaspi and Heman Kiyanga triumphed at the East of England regional final and the West Midlands regional final of the Great British Care Awards 2024, which recognises excellence across the care sector.
Rolando, representing Blackbrook House care home in Colchester, overcame the competition to claim the Care Home Worker Award at the regional final held in Milton Keynes on Friday 1 November. On Saturday 2 November, Heman, representing Godiva Lodge care home in Coventry, claimed the Care Home Worker Award at the regional final held in Birmingham.
Judges concluded that Rolando, Care Assistant at Anchor, engages residents through artistic exhibitions and meaningful activities, fostering connection and involvement. They added that his warmth, consistency, and energy make him an invaluable presence at Blackbrook House care home.

Rolando was delighted to win at the regional final, saying:
I'm just so grateful to everyone who nominated and supported me in getting to this stage. I hope I do the East of England proud at the upcoming national finals!
Judges said that Care Assistant Heman, displayed all the qualities of the type of carer that is required within the care industry, showing empathy and compassion and working closely with the residents at Godiva Lodge care home.

This is a wonderful achievement by Heman who fully deserves this recognition of his passion and ability.
Heman said:
It’s amazing! I was so happy just to be nominated but I honestly can’t believe I’ve won! I love doing what I do and it’s wonderful to be recognised by the judges in the Care Home Worker Award category.
Following their wins, both colleagues will advance on to the national final at the ICC in Birmingham, which takes place on March 14 2025.
