In my experience when visiting my mum, the staff are supportive, helpful and friendly. Devonshire House is welcoming with very nice lounge areas/ rooms and conservatory to use when visiting. Mum has settled in quickly in 2024.

My mother in law was at Devonshire house for just over 6 years on the Ryder unit, sadly passed away Oct 25.From day 1 we knew that this was the correct place for her. We were all made to welcome, no matter what time we went to visit, sometimes it was 8 o'clock in the evening., During her time there ALL the staff have become like extended family, n… ot only carers but housekeeping and kitchen staff. They all work so extremely hard and go above and beyond. They had organized a beautiful 'wedding vowel' renewal (fun and beautiful, with a local priest) for my in laws, also a huge family Diamond Wedding Anniversary meal for the whole family, 10 of us. Even time out of their weekend of to decorate the room for us,, For these things ànd numerous other events we will all be forever grateful. We as a family have made some amazing memories that the staff have made possible. Even being a massive support to my father in law, which helped take some of the pressure his children. 100% highly recommend

My Mother has been at Devonshire House for 30 months. It has become her home and she feels really safe, secure and well looked after. She loves the fact that the house is full of character and truly feels like an individual home with warmth and charm. The Carers are superb and always go the extra mile. It was recently my Mothers birthday and her ro… om was decorated with banners and they even had a cake with a candle that they brought to her room. My Mother is treated with dignity and love which means everything.

The quality of the care here is really good, exceptional to be honest. My wife was here for six years and on the whole I feel it is good value for money. The home is spacious and always smells clean. The grounds are lovely in the summer and the residents enjoying using them. I've always enjoyed my visits here, I always feel comfortable and part of … the family.

My mother has been at Devonshire House for around six months now and is very happy there. The proof of this is that after a recent hospital stay my mother told me that she was looking forward to going back 'home' to Devonshire House. This proved to me that she feels safe, secure and well cared here. My mother has a beautiful room with outstanding v… iews to the garden. All of the team here are caring and friendly bar none. Mum has been in other care homes but if we were choosing again we would still pick Devonshire House. Bravo.

The staff are so very friendly and kind; the home is exceptional. The staff know all my family's names and my dog's name (who visits everyday and is always welcome) which makes my family and I feel very happy and content. As my husband can no longer live with me due to his health conditions, it really puts my mind at ease that I feel he is being lo… oked after so well at Devonshire House.

Since my mother-in-law became a resident at Devonshire House in January 2025 - moving from a care home in the north-west of England - I have been constantly impressed with the quality of care, the exceptional standards of cleanliness and maintenance in a beautiful historic building and the attention to my mother-in-law's particular circumstances a… nd needs. In the past she has not always found it easy to settle or make friends, but she has easily managed both in Devonshire House and we have seen her uncharacteristically willing and even eager to participate in activities and to socialise with her fellow residents. The staff have kept us well informed and could not have been more responsive. The village of Cavendish is beautiful; likewise the grounds and gardens of Devonshire House, which can at need be enjoyed from inside the large conservatory. We visited a number of local care homes before settling on this one and we remain certain that we made the right choice.

- care staff accompaniment to regular medical appointments.

No upfront deposit is required at any of Anchor’s care homes to secure a room.

Please call us to discuss your specific care needs today. Alternatively we welcome you to visit us to discuss your situation face-to-face.

Want more information on care home fees?

Learning about the different funding options available to you can also help you feel confident in your decisions. Anchor know that securing care home funding can sometimes appear a rather daunting task and so to help we have put together a free guide covering requesting assistance, top up fees and third-party payments.

Kerry Healy

Care Home Manager

I have been the manager at Devonshire for 2 years and was Deputy manager for 3 years prior. Devonshire house has given me amazing opportunities to learn and develop in my role and to ensure that the residents are at the heart of what we do here.

Daniel Moss

Chef Manager

We are able to cater for a range of different dietary requirements at the home and make home made food fresh each day and homemade cakes. We would love you to come and have tea and cake with us.

Lauren Ellmers

Administrator

I’ve worked at Devonshire House for 6 years. I really enjoy the variety of my days and the opportunities between doing the administration for the home, to chat to the residents, especially after our Reading Club on Thursdays. Devonshire House resides in the beautiful Suffolk village of Cavendish and was the late Sue Ryder’s house where we have memorabilia which you are welcome to come and look at.

Welcoming you

To start your enquiry simply click 'Enquire now' at the top of the page and either call us or complete an online enquiry form.

We know only too well how daunting and emotional the decisions are for everyone when considering care, which is why our team are here to help every step of the way.

We’ll provide you with full details of the home, along with any other information you’d like, such as sample menus and activity schedules, as well as explain how you can arrange a viewing.

Whether you’re looking to stay with us permanently, or for a short break, we’d be delighted to take you on a show round of the home in person. Simply book a visit with the home manager once you’ve made your enquiry.

If you or your loved one doesn’t live nearby or are unable to visit in person we can provide a virtual show round. Either way, we’re keen to show you what daily life is like here and for you to meet our friendly team.

We hope you decide, following your visit, that you or your loved one would like to move into the home, in which case we’ll organise a pre-assessment to make sure we can meet all your care needs.

Guide to visiting a care home for the first time

Visiting a care home is one of the most important steps in deciding whether it’s the right place for you or your loved one. In our homes we will ensure your visit will be welcoming, informative and reassuring, so you can feel confident about your choice. To help you get the most from your time visiting our homes, we've written an easy to follow online guide to visiting a care home.

We hope you decide, following your visit, that you or your loved one would like to move into the home, in which case we’ll organise a pre-assessment to make sure we can meet all your care needs.

You may already have had a care needs assessment from the local authority and have a care plan in place which can be a useful starting point for our conversations, so we will ask about these. Our pre-assessment is a chance for us to find out more about you, the challenges you face and the way you like to live your life. It's a conversation about how our team could work with you to support your needs, independence, and wellbeing.

Once you are confident in your choice of new home, our friendly onsite teams will discuss every aspect of moving-in with you in detail to make sure you know exactly what to expect.

This way you can feel confident, safe and welcomed in the knowledge that you or your loved one will be happy and supported in your new home.

Before you move in, we will find out if there are any of your possessions that you wish us to place in your room before you arrive. Please bring your family photographs and most treasured possessions to help make your room your home.

Our care homes are dedicated to helping our residents maintain links in the local area and with their loved ones. We understand how important visits are to help your loved one settle in and we welcome regular visits from family and friends.

We also actively support residents living with us to enjoy visits away from their new home into the local area and to nearby places of interest.

Each of our homes is different and the manager of the care home you’re interested in will provide all the information you need around visiting.
