Transfers and mutual exchange
At Anchor we let our rented homes in a fair and transparent way designed to most effectively meet housing need and create sustainable tenancies and communities. Committed to providing homes that are a positive choice for people in later life, we get to know the residents who choose live with us, and understand that your circumstances and where you want to live can change over time.
Residents living in Anchor rented housing who wish to move can look for mutual exchange opportunities using HomeSwapper and, those with priority housing needs, can also apply for internal transfers.
Mutual exchanges - swapping home with another tenant
Living with us you have the right to exchange, or swap, your rented home with another Anchor tenant, or the tenant of another housing association or local authority (with our permission).
HomeSwapper is the UK’s leading mutual exchange service for social housing. Registering with their website you will be able to search for and swap your Anchor home with another tenant from anywhere in the country (subject to eligibility criteria).
Once you have found a property you wish to swap let your local manager, or Anchor’s Customer Experience Team, know so they can provide you with further information on the process and support you to obtain written permission for your exchange.
We highlight this well-established service on our website to support our residents who have chosen to use their service. Tenants living with other housing providers hoping to find an Anchor exchange partner are encouraged to check HomeSwapper to see where we have residents looking to move.
Internal transfers to support residents’ housing needs
Residents living in Anchor rented housing who find that their current home no longer meets their needs can apply for an internal transfer, either within their location or to another Anchor property.
For example:
- Residents with restricted mobility living in an upper-floor flat without a lift.
- Residents who need adaptations that can’t be made in their current home.
- Residents who need to move closer to care, support, or work.
To be eligible for this type of transfer you will need to evidence your housing needs and meet certain criteria, including having lived in your existing home for at least a year and not having any outstanding rent or service charge arrears.
Further details can be found in our Allocations and Lettings Policy, please speak to your local manager or contact the Customer Experience Team for more details.
