“I feel at home here”: Rich’s experience of joining Anchor
Rich Sage is a Data Engineering Manager at Anchor. In his blog, he shares what attracted him to Anchor, how his onboarding experience helped him feel confident in his new role and why he already feels at home.
When I joined Anchor as Data Engineering Manager, I was looking for more than my next career move. I wanted to use my experience to help others, work for an organisation whose values matched my own and continue to develop my career. Just weeks after joining, I’m sharing what attracted me to Anchor, how a smooth onboarding experience gave me confidence and why I already feel at home.
Finding purpose in a new sector
Before discovering the opportunity at Anchor, I had worked in technology within retail and hadn’t considered housing or later-life living. Learning more about Anchor changed that.
I realised that Anchor’s values aligned closely with my own and I wanted to do something in my next career step that helped other people in society, as well as furthering my own career aspirations.
Conversations during the interview process reinforced that impression. Hearing directly from my manager about life at Anchor made me even more excited about the opportunity. When the offer came, I was over the moon.
A smooth start from day one
My pre-joining experience was super slick. The onboarding portal set out everything clearly, guided me through each step and made the practical tasks quick and straightforward. My equipment arrived ahead of my first day, while open communication meant I felt comfortable asking questions before I started.
It gave me reassurance that the onboarding process had been thought about for new joiners. If onboarding was right, it gave me a good feeling about everything else for when I joined.
That positive experience continued on day one. My manager made time to explain the opportunities and challenges ahead, introduced me to colleagues and encouraged me to build connections across the organisation. With my laptop ready, access to support and time to understand Anchor’s values and purpose, I was able to get started quickly.
Doing the right thing together
For me, the people have made the biggest difference. I’ve found colleagues who are supportive, helpful and motivated to keep improving - united by a shared commitment to doing the right thing for Anchor and the people who live with us.
I’ve been made to feel so welcome at Anchor. I work with genuinely lovely people who have the same values around doing right for Anchor and our residents. I feel at home here.
If you’re looking for a career where your skills can make a meaningful difference, explore opportunities at Anchor and find a role where you can feel at home too.
