Major regeneration of social housing completes in Weymouth
A major joint effort between Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for people in later life, and Dorset Council has successfully delivered the regeneration of Holly Court.
The new development, The Hollies, is a 100% social housing for people aged 55 and over, rebuilt after the previous site was badly affected by Storm Eunice in 2022.
Working with local construction firm CG Fry & Son, Anchor has transformed the site with a brand-new collection of social rent apartments, adding an additional storey and increasing the number of homes available from 35 to 37. The new, larger apartments have been designed to provide modern, affordable, and high-quality homes, with every property benefiting from its own private garden or balcony.
The redevelopment also includes enhanced communal spaces, providing residents with more opportunities to socialise and reconnect with their neighbours.
All residents who lived at Holly Court before Storm Eunice were offered the opportunity to return the redeveloped scheme. Residents are expected to begin moving back into their new homes from mid-November.
Councillor Louise Brown of Dorset Council, said:
The successful redevelopment of Holly Court is a testament to the combined efforts of everyone involved in bringing this important project to completion.
It is fantastic to see so many residents from the previous site return to the new development. The determination and collaboration of everyone involved have helped to create a positive new chapter for the community.
Anthony Probert, Senior Development Manager at Anchor, said:
Seeing Holly Court transformed into a modern, high-quality development is a particularly proud moment for everyone involved.
The redevelopment has given us the opportunity to create larger modern apartments, alongside improved communal spaces and private outdoor areas, while retaining the sense of community for residents.
