Care homes compete in Christmas cake competition
Every year we host a Christmas cake competition. It’s an opportunity for colleagues and residents alike to get into the festive spirit and work together to make some tasty treats.
All the entries required a final cake and instructions on how the cake was made. Judges then scored the cake on several criteria, including decoration, originality, and taste.
Some of our regional winners include Larchfield care home, Clayburn Court, Kingfisher Court, Gills Top, The Manor House Knaresborough and Manor Court.
Every cake that entered receives a certificate, and the first, second, and third place regional final winners in each category receive a trophy as well.
Larchfield care home won the Christmas cake competition in the Leeds region, with Beech Hall and Oak Tree Lodge coming in second and third place.
Ruth Lee, a resident at Larchfield care home, was overjoyed at winning the competition, saying:
I’m a big fan of Christmas cake decorating and making so I was really excited when I heard there was a Christmas cake competition. I never thought we’d win though, it’s absolutely brilliant!
I’ve always enjoyed decorating cakes, almost as much as I enjoy eating them! I really enjoy the baking sessions at Anchor’s Larchfield, so it was a really nice way to get into the holiday spirit.
