My mother has been resident for nearly 2 year, in that time I have found the staff to helpful, courteous and interested in my mother's welfare. My mother continually tells me how good the food is! I am happy that my mother is settled and comfortable. When I visit there has never been anything untoward i.e smell, or someone at the door asking to be … taken home. The entertainment for the residents is varied and of interest to most and can be enjoyed by all if they want to participate.

Sincere thanks to all members of Gills Top staff, including chefs and cleaners. My father recently spent a week with you from Sunday 27 April to Sunday 4 May whilst my mum receiving a hip replacement. Right from the beginning communication was straightforward and very helpful, we had to rearrange dates at the last moment and management was very obl… iging. The care staff were lovely to both residents and visitors, being attentive but not overpowering. Dad really benefited from his stay, he ate well and start to enjoy food again which was great for us to see as he has had a poor appetite for a long time. Social interaction with both staff and residents and regular strolls around your peaceful garden has improved his confidence and strength. When we heard that dad was planning to have a go at pizza making we were amazed! Afterwards he said it was "an interesting experience and he had never tasted a pizza quite like it !"

Couldn't recommend this care home enough at Gills Top. They looked after my grandad with great care and affection from day one. The facilities are amazing and they go above and beyond with everything they provide for all residents. Nothing is ever to much trouble. I wouldn't hesitate to use this care home again in the future and I've already recomm… ended people to come and look round it for relatives of theirs.

What is included in care home fees?

- professional hairdressing
- personal copies of newspapers or magazines
- personal purchases such as stationery, confectionery, toiletries etc.
- clothing, shoes and slippers

In the absence of free provision by the NHS, we can also arrange for the following healthcare services to be provided, these will be charged in addition to the weekly fees:
- chiropody
- optometry
- dentistry
- physiotherapy
- other privately arranged healthcare
- care staff accompaniment to regular medical appointments.

No upfront deposit is required at any of Anchor’s care homes to secure a room.

Anchor 2025 Christmas and New Year opening times

Over the 2025 festive period our teams will still be on hand to answer your queries. Find out more about changes to our opening times.

Welcoming you

To start your enquiry simply click 'Enquire now' at the top of the page and either call us or complete an online enquiry form.

We know only too well how daunting and emotional the decisions are for everyone when considering care, which is why our team are here to help every step of the way.

We’ll provide you with full details of the home, along with any other information you’d like, such as sample menus and activity schedules, as well as explain how you can arrange a viewing.

Whether you’re looking to stay with us permanently, or for a short break, we’d be delighted to take you on a show round of the home in person. Simply book a visit with the home manager once you’ve made your enquiry.

If you or your loved one doesn’t live nearby or are unable to visit in person we can provide a virtual show round. Either way, we’re keen to show you what daily life is like here and for you to meet our friendly team.

We hope you decide, following your visit, that you or your loved one would like to move into the home, in which case we’ll organise a pre-assessment to make sure we can meet all your care needs.

Guide to visiting a care home for the first time

Visiting a care home is one of the most important steps in deciding whether it’s the right place for you or your loved one. In our homes we will ensure your visit will be welcoming, informative and reassuring, so you can feel confident about your choice. To help you get the most from your time visiting our homes, we've written an easy to follow online guide to visiting a care home.

We hope you decide, following your visit, that you or your loved one would like to move into the home, in which case we’ll organise a pre-assessment to make sure we can meet all your care needs.

You may already have had a care needs assessment from the local authority and have a care plan in place which can be a useful starting point for our conversations, so we will ask about these. Our pre-assessment is a chance for us to find out more about you, the challenges you face and the way you like to live your life. It's a conversation about how our team could work with you to support your needs, independence, and wellbeing.

Once you are confident in your choice of new home, our friendly onsite teams will discuss every aspect of moving-in with you in detail to make sure you know exactly what to expect.

This way you can feel confident, safe and welcomed in the knowledge that you or your loved one will be happy and supported in your new home.

Before you move in, we will find out if there are any of your possessions that you wish us to place in your room before you arrive. Please bring your family photographs and most treasured possessions to help make your room your home.

Our care homes are dedicated to helping our residents maintain links in the local area and with their loved ones. We understand how important visits are to help your loved one settle in and we welcome regular visits from family and friends.

We also actively support residents living with us to enjoy visits away from their new home into the local area and to nearby places of interest.

Each of our homes is different and the manager of the care home you’re interested in will provide all the information you need around visiting.
