Anchor manager completes 10km fun run cheered on by residents
Residents from Blackbrook House care home in Gun Hill, Colchester came together to cheer on Sam Wallis, Regional Support Manager at Anchor, as she completed the Dedham 10km Fun Run on Sunday 15 September.
Lucy Yarham, Home Manager at Blackbrook House, said:
We have really enjoyed cheering Sam on her way. It has strengthened the great community spirit we have here.
At Blackbrook House, we try different ways to encourage residents to take part in regular physical activity. Keeping active, for even just a couple of hours a week, can make a big difference to fitness and wellbeing in later life – and it’s so much fun!
For over 30 years, the event has been raising money for Dedham Primary School. Blackbrook House was proud to be among the sponsors of this year’s event.
Sam was over the moon to have residents from the care home supporting her. She said:
I’m so thankful to have had them there throughout the event, right up until the point I crossed the finish line.
Ellen Hurley, 96, was among the residents cheering Sam on. She said:
It was a lovely day out. We’re all so immensely proud of what Sam achieved.
