Anchor colleagues win awards in North East and North West regional finals of the Great British Care Awards
We are proud to announce that Laura Erskine triumphed at the North East regional final and Jackie Baines won an award at the North West regional final of the Great British Care Awards 2024, which recognises excellence across the care sector.
Laura, representing The Manor House Barnard Castle care home, overcame the competition to claim the Palliative Care Award at the regional final held in Newcastle on Thursday 7 November. Jackie, who works at Eric Morecambe House care home, won the Ancillary Worker Award at the North West regional final held in Manchester on Saturday 9 November.
The Great British Care Awards honour individuals who have gone the extra mile to help improve the lives of residents within their care.
Judges concluded that Laura, Deputy Manager at Anchor, is a truly compassionate care worker with the knowledge to deliver excellent quality palliative care. They also said that Laura goes above and beyond, seeking additional training in oral care, and has been recognised by family members for her exceptional care.
Debbie Wilson, Home Manager of The Manor House Barnard Castle care home said:
This is a wonderful achievement by Laura who fully deserves this recognition of her passion and ability.
Laura was delighted to win at the regional final, saying:
It’s amazing! I was so happy just to be nominated but I honestly can’t believe I’ve won! I love doing what I do and it’s wonderful to be recognised by the judges in the Palliative Care Award category.
On awarding Jackie with the Ancillary Worker Award, judges comment that she exemplifies Anchor’s values every day, consistently going above and beyond in every role she’s held - from housekeeping to team leader, and now as an administrator.
Stephanie Webster, Home Manager of Eric Morecambe House care home said:
Jackie is a delight to work with and all our residents love her too! She’s an incredible part of our team and makes working at Eric Morecambe House care home a joy.
Jackie was delighted to win at the regional final, saying:
I'm just so grateful to everyone who nominated and supported me in getting to this stage. I hope I do the North West proud at the upcoming national finals!
Following their wins, Laura and Jackie will advance on to the national final at the ICC in Birmingham, which takes place on March 14 2025.
