Anchor colleague among finalists for national Learning Disability and Autism Award
An Anchor colleague has been recognised on a national scale for her commitment to improving the lives of others.
Rachael Stead, Housekeeper at Sandholme Fold care home in Halifax, was among those shortlisted for the Learning Disability and Autism Leaders’ List 2024. She was nominated by learning disability charity Hft for her contribution to their campaigning activities.
Attending the launch of Hft’s Voices for Our Future campaign in Westminster, Rachael spoke about attitudes towards people with learning disabilities. Speaking before MPs, she helped shine a light on the barriers people face day-to-day.
Having worked at Anchor’s Sandholme Fold for over 18 years, Rachael said that it “felt fantastic” to be nominated for the national award. She faced an agonising wait before being able to share the good news. The announcement was finally made at a special awards ceremony at the O2 in London in April.
Anchor’s Sandholme Fold District Manager Kirsty Francis said:
Myself and the team at Sandholme Fold are so proud of Rachael in all that she has achieved. Rachael is a super star and is a shining example of just one of our colleagues within Anchor who can achieve really amazing things. We have highlighted her success with colleagues and through Anchor’s enABLE Network, which provides information and support to colleagues living with impairments, disabilities, neurodiversities and/or caring responsibilities.
