From Italy to Felixstowe: Flora Green celebrates 100th birthday at The Firs
Resident Flora Green celebrated her 100th birthday at The Firs care home in Felixstowe on 17 May, surrounded by family, friends and fellow residents.
The milestone marked a remarkable life journey that began in Italy nearly a century ago before bringing Flora to Suffolk, where she raised a family and became a valued member of her local community.
To celebrate the occasion, colleagues at The Firs decorated the home, baked a homemade birthday cake and welcomed Flora's loved ones to share memories and mark the special day together.
Born in 1926 near Padua in northern Italy, Flora grew up as one of nine children. From a young age, she helped support her family by working locally, developing the resilience and determination that would shape the rest of her life.
During the Second World War, Flora worked in a hotel where she met her future husband, Albert, a British soldier stationed in Italy. The couple married in 1946 and, shortly afterwards, Flora moved to England to begin a new chapter.
After settling near Ipswich, Flora raised three children and became a well-known member of
her local community. She spent many years working at Orwell Park School, where she was remembered for her kindness, strong work ethic and willingness to help others.
Now a grandmother and great-grandmother, Flora enjoys listening to Italian music, watching television, attending church services and spending time with her family.
Flora's family joined her for the celebrations and said the secret to her long life is "family, resilience and always keeping going".
Reflecting on her milestone birthday, Flora said she thoroughly enjoyed the celebrations and the opportunity to spend time with loved ones.
Colleen Farrow, Home Manager at The Firs, said:
"It was a privilege to celebrate such an incredible milestone with Flora. She has lived a truly inspiring life and is a much-loved member of our community."
