West Hall unearths time capsule buried 10 years ago
West Hall care home in West Byfleet has celebrated its 10th anniversary with a party for residents and members of the local community. The event also saw the unsealing of a sentimental time capsule that was buried when West Hall first opened its doors.
Princess Alexandra opened West Hall on the 23 June 2012. On Thursday 23 June, 10 years to the day after opening, the home celebrated its 10-year anniversary with a party for residents and their loved ones. Members of the local community also attended the celebration, including the Mayor of Woking, Saj Hussain and Woking MP Jonathan Lord.
Jonathan Lord MP was present 10 years ago when the time capsule was buried, and 16-year-old apprentice care assistant Lily Allen was one of the school children who put letters and pictures in the capsule. Being present as the time capsule was unsealed was a special time for them as it brought back memories and reflections.
Jonathan Lord MP said:
It was great to visit Anchor’s West Hall care home to celebrate 10 years since it opened. For a decade now, the team here have provided the highest standards of care to residents. I was delighted to be here 10 years ago, and I’m delighted to be here now to celebrate this milestone.
Residents and guests enjoy afternoon of reminiscing
Afterwards, everyone came together to enjoy an afternoon tea in the beautiful five and a half acre grounds. Our residents were able to share memories from the last 10 years over musical entertainment from harp soloist Danielle Clarke and local musical act Charlie and Ronnie.
Kate Fruin, 93, who has lived at West Hall care home for four years, said:
I really enjoyed celebrating the 10th anniversary of Anchor’s West Hall care home. It was a lot of fun, especially seeing all the things in the time capsule!
I remember when I first moved here in 2019, it just seems like yesterday! I suppose time does go quickly when you’re having fun. Here’s to another 10 years!
Kat Mahoney, General Manager of West Hall care home, said:
We can’t believe it’s been 10 years since we opened. I’m really proud of the wonderful community we have here. We’ve all worked hard to create a fun, enabling environment for our residents and to give them top quality care. This would not have been possible without everyone on my incredible team working together so well.
This is the first event we have been able to arrange since I joined West Hall as General Manager. It was lovely to see the residents and their loved ones enjoying the afternoon. We look forward to having many more in the years to come.
West Hall, like all our care homes, strives to provide residents with a caring and supportive environment so they can love living in later life. Over the last 10 years, to the next 10 years and beyond.
