Laying down new roots in Otley
Local school children joined Alex Sobel MP to plant a tree in the grounds of Wharfeside care home in Otley
Wharfeside is a new care home that will provide person-centred residential and dementia care. It is also purpose built to provide a safe and comfortable environment for residents. The three-story home, which was built by LNT, has an Energy Performance Certificate A rating. New residents will move into the home in November.
Alex Sobel, MP for Leeds North West, planted the tree with assistance from pupils from St Joseph’s Primary School in Otley and our Executive Director of Development, Oliver Boundy. The MP was also given a tour of the care home which includes 66 en-suite bedrooms and a wealth of on-site facilities including communal roof terraces, a coffee shop, bar area and hairdressing salon.
Oliver Boundy said:
We’re thrilled to be opening this brand-new care home. Wharfeside is purpose built to meet the needs of today’s residents while also being equipped for future residents.
Everyone has been looking forward to planting this tree ahead of the opening and we’re honoured to have Alex Sobel MP join us for the ceremony. Wharfeside is an exciting addition to Anchor’s care home portfolio and demonstrates we are progressing in our growth strategy to build more and better homes where people love living in later life. We look forward to welcoming new residents to Wharfeside.
Kathryn Choma, Headteacher at St Joseph’s Primary School, said:
It was brilliant to see the children having fun at Wharfeside today. They were very excited to help plant the tree and we all look forward to participating in intergenerational activities once residents move in.
Wharfeside care home will replace Teal Beck House care home on Teal Beck Approach and residents and colleagues will be moved to the new location.
Eileen Armstrong, 96 currently lives at Teal Beck House care home and will be moving to the new home. She said:
I’m very excited for the move to Wharfeside care home and to see my new room, everyone who has gone there has said such great things.
The care team from Teal Beck House care home is amazing and I’m thrilled we get to move altogether and use the new facilities for group activities.
Wharfeside care home is now recruiting for various positions, including care assistants and domestic and kitchen support, to join the established care team from Teal Beck House.
