Car parking
Increasing levels of car ownership amongst residents living with us makes it essential that we have a system of fair access to the parking spaces that are available.
This page explains our approach to resident and visitor parking and the type of vehicles permitted.
In this guidance you’ll find:
- Resident parking
- Visitor parking and parking permits
- Can parking spaces be reserved?
- What type of vehicles are allowed to use Anchor car parking spaces?
- Parking for emergency vehicles
- Parking considerations for electric vehicles
- Additional information about parking at Homeownership locations

Resident parking
Car parking for residents is on a first come first served basis.
Visitor parking and parking permits
Temporary short-term parking is permitted by visitors, Anchor colleagues or their agents where:
- There are enough car parking spaces available to allow parking without inconveniencing residents living at the location or:
- There is no suitable or safe alternative parking provision available nearby.
At some housing locations we operate a parking permit system, the location manager will be able to advise you on what arrangements are in place at your location.
Can parking spaces be reserved?
Parking spaces, including disabled spaces, cannot be reserved or allocated either on a temporary or permanent basis to an individual resident, visitor or guest, except where a lease holder is allocated a specific space within the terms of their lease.
Parking for emergency vehicles
Access and temporary parking requirements for emergency vehicles must be observed at all times.
What type of vehicles are allowed to use Anchor car parking spaces?
Car parking spaces are to be used for the parking of roadworthy fully taxed cars or motorcycles belonging to an Anchor resident.
The parking of motor homes, caravans, commercial vehicles, vans, wagons, trailers, boats and any other vehicles are not permitted, unless there is ample space and you have our written permission to do so.
Parking considerations for electric vehicles
We currently have limited facilities for charging electric vehicles and you should discuss the practicalities with your location manager prior to purchase.
Additional information about parking at Homeownership locations
At our homeownership locations the lease will dictate car parking arrangements. We will adhere to this and consider the requirements prior to implementing a local car parking solution.
More information and advice on car parking
We have a large number of housing locations, with varying levels of parking available. For local car parking arrangements please speak to the location manager.
If there is a problem with car parking which cannot be addressed by the application of our car parking policy, residents will be consulted with a view to establishing a local parking policy.
