Minister and local MP, Rushanara Ali, visits Anchor’s Silk Court care home
Minister for Homelessness and Rough Sleeping and MP for Bethnal Green and Stepney, Rushanara Ali, recently visited her local Anchor care home, Silk Court, in the heart of her constituency to see how the organisation is delivering care for its residents.
The Minister met residents and carers at the care home which is part of Anchor, a Purpose Coalition partner, and England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for people in later life.
Rushanara Ali has been MP for Bethnal Green and Stepney, and its predecessor Bethnal Green and Bow, since 2010. Having held a number of shadow frontbench posts, she was appointed Minister for Homelessness and Rough Sleeping in the new Labour Government following the General Election in July 2024. Rushanara Ali was joined by Anchor Chief Executive, Sarah Jones, and was given a tour of Silk Court and its facilities, chatting with residents and care colleagues to find out about life at the care home and the range of services it offers.
Rushanara Ali also met Silk Court Care Home Manager, Renae Dixon, who said:
It was great to welcome our local MP to Silk Court and we were able to show her all the fantastic person-centred care services we provide. Residents really enjoyed meeting her and having the opportunity to share their own experiences of living at the home.
Thanking the team at Silk Court, Rushanara Ali said:
It was a pleasure visiting Silk Court care home and meeting residents and staff. I am hugely grateful to all the carers and the wider staff team for all they do to support the residents.
Anchor Chief Executive, Sarah Jones, said:
