The Mill House care home invites the community to their monthly Sunday Social

The Mill House in Skipton has launched a welcoming "Sunday Social" initiative inviting local older people to come and enjoy refreshments and good company with them the first Sunday of each month.

The first Sunday Social session was held on Sunday 5 November with local community group Step into Action assisting with transportation for local residents. 

The home's new community events focus on providing an opportunity for people to have a chat, play board games, and enjoy crosswords and word searches together.

Activities Co-ordinator at The Mill House, Amanda Chapman explained why the home launched the monthly event:

We want to invite our older neighbours to come and enjoy refreshments and some friendly company with us here at The Mill House.

Our home is a new addition to the local community, and we are looking forward to getting to know our neighbours and being involved in local life.

We know that isolation and loneliness are serious issues faced by older people in all communities. Our Sunday Socials will be an informal and relaxed opportunity for people to spend time socialising with others in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

The Mill House opened its doors in July this year, as part of Anchor’s growth strategy to create more and better homes where people can love living in later life.

The Mill House is set within private landscaped gardens located on the historic site of a former silk mill in Skipton and is equipped with an array of facilities including a hairdressing and beauty salon, café bar and safe balcony areas.
