Mayor of Derby opens new shops at Landemere care home
Landemere care home welcomed the Mayor of Derby to open their new resident onsite shop and coffee shop.
Landemere care home in Derby celebrated the opening of its brand new, resident coffee shop and the upgrading of the onsite shop during Care Home Open Day week, with a party attended by residents, their relatives and mayor Councillor Ged Potter.
Care Home Open Day week is dedicated to showcasing the warmth, care and vibrant communities that care homes provide across the country.
To mark the official opening, guests enjoyed food and drinks in Landemere’s lounge and central dining room before Councillor Potter gave a heartwarming speech to declare the coffee shop and shop open. Guests then enjoyed some refreshments and light musical entertainment provided by regular favourite Becca Gee.
Councillor Potter said:
I was delighted to be invited to Landemere coffee shop and shop opening. They are both a great facility for the home’s residents.
Coming together in their new coffee shop will give residents the opportunity to share stories, activities and people that make Landemere a special community to be part of.
Angela Williams, Home Manager of Landemere care home, said:
We’re delighted to open our new coffee shop and shop and deeply honoured that Councillor Potter could join us!
Our residents were included in the decision making especially on deciding on the items to be sold, our aim is to encourage them to continue to be independent.
We’ve worked hard on the new facilities and my team did a wonderful job to get everything looking so good.
Our coffee shop will open regularly, encouraging relatives to join their loved ones for coffee, cake and a chat.
Kim Shield, daughter of resident Doreen, said,
The coffee shop is a welcome addition to the facilities at Landemere, a great way of inviting relatives to participate in activities and general socialisation.
Christine Prosser, daughter of Brenda - also a resident - said,
The shop is a very good idea. If mum runs out of toiletries, she can get them from the shop. Mum’s friend often visits and would really enjoy meeting mum in the onsite coffee shop.
Betty Robinson, 84, said,
I’ve only been at Landemere for five weeks, but I love it here. The staff can’t do enough for you, they run their legs off and always have a smile on their faces.
The shop is a good idea, I often run out of things, then I have to contact my family and they have to go shopping. But now that we have a little shop in Landemere, I can buy my own toiletries, it’s dead handy and I don’t have to wait.
I can invite my family to the coffee shop for coffee, cake and a chat, with nice music in the background, I like Elvis.
