The Manor House Knaresborough care home hosts its own miniature Yorkshire Show
Residents and colleagues at The Manor House Knaresborough care home enjoyed a celebration of all things Yorkshire, as the home threw open its doors and gardens for a miniature Yorkshire Show of its own.
Across our care homes, residents can choose from a wide range of activities throughout the year, designed around their interests, hobbies and the moments that matter to them. Celebrating Yorkshire Day was one way for residents at The Manor House Knaresborough to come together, share memories and enjoy a day of fun inspired by local traditions.
The celebrations kicked off in the morning with a programme of classic village fete games. Residents had a go at "Guess the Weight of the Cake" and "How Many Sweets in the Jar", each trying their luck at getting closest to the answer. The undoubted highlight, however, was the welly wanging, which saw residents cheering each other on
from the sidelines as wellies sailed through the air and the garden filled with laughter.
After a busy morning of games, residents were treated to a relaxed afternoon of tea and cake, giving everyone the chance to enjoy a Yorkshire brew together before the presentation of the home's very first Yorkshire awards.
For many residents, the celebrations brought back memories of local shows and village fetes they had attended over the years, whether as children, parents or grandparents.
Colleagues said the day was as much about the stories being shared between residents as it was about the games and afternoon tea, with plenty of happy memories revisited along the way.
Klara Spatenkova, Home Manager at The Manor House Knaresborough, said:
We're very proud to be part of the Yorkshire community, and we wanted to celebrate that in a way our residents could really get involved with. There was lots of laughter throughout the day, especially during the welly wanging, and it was great to see everyone cheering each other on. Hearing the stories shared afterwards really showed just how much Yorkshire means to so many of our residents, and it was wonderful to see them enjoying the day together and making new memories along the way.
Maureen, resident at The Manor House Knaresborough and winner of The Yorkshire Rose Award, said:
I've spent my whole life in Yorkshire, and it's lovely to be able to celebrate it together like this. The games were such good fun, and the day brought back a lot of happy memories for me.
