The Manor House Roundhay care home hosts dog show for National Dog Day
The Manor House Roundhay in Leeds welcomed some very special visitors as the care home hosted its Paws & Applause show, bringing residents, families and members of the local community together while raising money for Dogs Trust Leeds.
Following the success of last year’s event, the home once again opened its doors to the local community and their furry friends for an afternoon of games, treats and plenty of wagging tails.
The event gave residents the chance to enjoy the company of dogs, spend time with family and members of their community, and share memories of pets they had loved over the years. It also raised money for Dogs Trust Leeds, supporting the charity’s work to give dogs a better future.
Residents got involved in judging the competition, with prizes awarded across a range of categories including Prettiest Pup, Waggiest Tail, Scruffiest & Fluffiest, Golden Oldie and Dog Most Like Its Owner. From young puppies to older companions, there were plenty of four-legged contestants to meet.
The event also featured a doggy tombola, with each dog picking its own numbered tennis ball.
National Dog Day provided a fitting opportunity to celebrate the companionship and comfort dogs can bring to people’s lives. For many residents, spending time with the dogs brought back happy memories of their own pets and the special place they had held in their lives.
Sharna Neal, Home Manager at The Manor House Roundhay, said:
Days like this mean so much to us at The Manor House Roundhay. The event created so many smiles and memorable moments for our residents. It was lovely to see them enjoying time with the dogs and sharing their own memories, and knowing we were doing it all for such a great cause made the day even more special.
Ruth Fraser, a resident at The Manor House Roundhay, said:
I've always loved dogs, so being surrounded by so many was wonderful. It brought back so many happy memories of pets I've had over the years, and it was lovely to spend the afternoon with family, friends and new four-legged faces. Judging was much harder than I expected, there were so many good contenders!
