Skelton Court care home welcomes local dogs for Scruffs Dog Show

Residents at Skelton Court care home in Skelton-in-Cleveland welcomed local dogs and their owners for a special Scruffs Dog Show to mark National Dog Day and raise money for local rescue centre Maxi’s Mates.

The afternoon brought residents, families and people from the local community together to enjoy some time with their four-legged friends. For residents, it was also a chance to reminisce about pets they have had over the years and share memories of the special place dogs have held in their lives.

Residents take centre stage

Residents at Skelton Court took on the important job of judging the dogs, with plenty of different categories celebrating their personalities and talents.

Awards included Waggeist Tail, Golden Oldie and Residents’ Choice, before the afternoon came to a close with the Best in Show Final.

There was plenty more to enjoy alongside the competition, including a BBQ, tombola, sweet shop and cake stall. Guests could also have a go at Guessing the Weight of the Bone, while the dogs were treated to their own doggy cakes, treat bags and puppuccinos.

Our Scruffs Dog Show was a lovely afternoon, and it was brilliant to see so many residents, families and four-legged friends getting involved.

There were so many special moments throughout the day, from residents sharing memories of their own dogs to everyone getting involved in the different competitions. Knowing that we were also raising money for Maxi’s Mates made the afternoon even more meaningful.

Sylvia, a resident at Skelton Court, said:

I had such a great time with the dogs this afternoon. Each of them had unique personalities, and watching them during the Best in Show Final made it tough to pick a favourite.

It brought back so many wonderful memories of the dogs I’ve had over the years, and I could tell the pups enjoyed themselves as much as we did, especially with all the treats around.

Supporting the local community

The Scruffs Dog Show also raised money for Maxi’s Mates, a local charity that rescues stray and abandoned dogs across Teesside and the North East.
