Mayor and mayoress open Maple Tree Court’s new shop for residents
Maple Tree Court in Kidsgrove celebrated the opening of its brand new onsite shop during Care Home Open Day week with a party attended by residents, their relatives and Mayor and Mayoress of Newcastle-under-Lyme Councillor Barry and Mrs Beatrice Panter.
To mark the official opening, guests enjoyed light refreshments in Maple Tree Court tearoom before Councillor Panter cut the ribbon and officially opened the Maple Tree Stores. Guests then enjoyed some light refreshments and musical entertainment provided by regular favourite Tom Lee King.
Councillor Panter said:
I was delighted to be invited to Maple Tree Stores opening. It’s refreshing to know that the home listens to their residents and gives them what they want.
From what I’ve seen and heard when chatting to its residents, it would encourage me to come and live here, if or when the time came.
Mrs Panter said,
We’ve been made to feel very welcome today. I’ve worked in care and I can see that the residents are very happy and the staff are very caring.
It’s nice that you have included the residents in the decision making about the shop and what’s being sold. It’s a very good idea, it will give them independence.
Resident Joan Green, who has lived at Maple Tree Court for five years, said:
If I run out of anything like toiletries, I have to contact my family and wait till they visit. With our new shop, I can go shopping myself and get what I need. It just gives me that little bit of independence back.
Natalie Boden, Home Manager of Maple Tree Court care home said,
We’re delighted to open our new shop and deeply honoured that our special guests, Mayor and Mayoress Councillor Barry and Mrs Beatrice Panter could join us.
We’ve worked hard on the new facilities and my team did a wonderful job to get everything looking so lovely.
Our residents told us that they can’t wait to go shopping. They can buy essential toiletries, chocolate, sweets, fizzy drinks, daily papers and magazines, greeting cards and stamps, we even have a post box.
Maple Tree Court offers first class care and facilities with en-suite rooms for up to 64 residents. To find out more about Maple Tree Court, click here.
