Mary and Tom share their lifetime of love
Mary 88 and Tom 93, residents at Palmersdene care home, first met in 1953 during an encounter described by both as “love at first sight”. Mary was queuing for the cinema with her friends when fate decided Tom would be among those to walk past.
Mary whispered to her friend “isn’t he nice”, to which her friend replied, “you don’t stand a chance”. Despite these somewhat harsh words, Mary and her friends begun inviting Tom to join them on their trips to the cinema. These trips continued for six weeks, until Tom asked to take Mary home. Fast forward to Christmas Eve that same year, and the couple were married.
Since then, Mary and Tom have helped grow a family that includes three children (two girls and one boy), nine grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Reflecting on 69 years of marriage, the couple are incredibly grateful for so many cherished memories. The secret to their everlasting love is their impressive ability to never argue and always make decisions together.
Today, the couple continue to cherish each other’s company as residents at Palmersdene care home, which they moved into nine months ago. For further information about Palmersdene care home, click here.
