The Manor House Knaresborough spreads the joy of reading for World Book Day
Residents and colleagues at The Manor House Knaresborough care home have celebrated World Book Day by creating a special book hiding trail for local children to enjoy across the town.
Residents selected a range of children’s books – proudly showcased by resident Joyce – before Activity Co ordinators Katie and Joanne placed them in secret spots around Knaresborough for families to discover on their walks. Each book is free for children to keep, or they can choose to exchange it at the home’s Little Free Library. The idea links back to a much loved part of the home’s history: Storytime with Sheila.
Sheila, a former schoolteacher and resident at The Manor House Knaresborough, regularly welcomed children into the home for reading sessions. Her passion for stories and her belief that every child should have access to books left a lasting impression on the whole community.
When Sheila passed away, the home created a Little Free Library in her honour, helping her love of reading live on. This year’s World Book Day activity was inspired by her commitment to sharing stories and encouraging young imaginations to grow.
Klara Spatenkova, Home Manager at The Manor House Knaresborough, said:
Sheila believed that reading was one of the greatest gifts you could give a child. Hiding books around our wonderful town felt like a fitting tribute to her – a simple way to spark curiosity, adventure and joy.
Families who find one of the hidden books are invited to share their discovery with the home.
Happy reading, Knaresborough. Click here to find out more about The Manor House Knaresborough.
