From jumper days to light switch-ons: festive celebrations across our care homes in Surrey
Residents and colleagues at Anchor care homes across Surrey are embracing the festive spirit in style.
From crafting Christmas decorations and singing carols, to decorating trees and baking festive treats, each activity is bringing smiles, laughter and a sense of togetherness. These celebrations are a wonderful reminder of the positive impact creativity and community can have on people’s wellbeing during the festive season.
West Hall, Elizabeth Court, Greenacres, Oakleigh, Ridgemount, The Beeches, Eastlake, Glendale, Limegrove, Linwood, Thameside and Moore Place kicked off their festive celebrations with their spectacular Christmas light switch-ons. The annual tradition is a much-loved moment in the lead-up to Christmas, bringing joy to residents and the local community. Residents have also been busy creating their own decorations to hang on their care homes’ Christmas trees.
This year, West Hall care home in West Byfleet took festivities to new heights with a memorable series of special events. The home hosted a Christmas Jumper Day, where residents sported their favourite festive attire for the day, had a visit from Cllr Amanda Boote, Mayor of Woking to switch on the Christmas lights, and residents enjoyed a creative afternoon trying their hand at making Christmas cards.
Paul Rifai, General Manager at West Hall, says:
We’re having so much fun this December at West Hall, and it's been wonderful seeing everyone get involved in all the celebrations. From the shared laughter during the Christmas jumper day to the excitement of the annual Christmas light switch-on, it’s been such a memorable time for all of us at Anchor – whether that be our colleagues, residents or their families.
Doris, resident at West Hall, says:
The lead-up to Christmas has been so exciting here at West Hall, with so many festive events for us to get involved in! Everyone has worked so hard to make sure we’re having fun and getting into the Christmas spirit – there’s truly been an activity for everyone.
We are proud of the real community feel each of our care homes have, where people interact with fellow residents, families and friends, and are supported to continue doing all the things they enjoy. Christmas is a special time of year for so many reasons and colleagues always take this great opportunity to organise some extra special activities. Find out more about our approach to wellness here.
