Hatton Grange carer abseils to raise funds for children’s hospital
Hatton Grange care home is applauding the bravery of a care assistant who abseiled down the Hyatt Regency Hotel to raise money for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
Jo Agar, Care Assistant at Anchor’s Hatton Grange care home on Oldham Street, was convinced to attempt the feat after a group of her friends took on the challenge. On 26 June, Jo and her friends stood on the roof of the hotel before propelling themselves down 170ft to ground level.
Jo said:
I’ve never done anything like this before but since my friends were doing it, I thought I could too. I was scared but my colleagues at Hatton Grange were absolutely brilliant encouraging me in the days leading up to the challenge.
Jo’s courage has not gone unnoticed with the care team and residents at Anchor’s Hatton Grange showering her with praise and colleagues, family and friends donating to the worthwhile cause. Through her achievement, Jo has raised over £300 for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
Jo continued:
I was motivated because I wanted to give a boost to the children at the hospital. I could see the hospital while I was abseiling which was very meaningful. I know that every bit helps and wanted to do my part.
Jo, who has worked at Anchor’s Hatton Grange care home for two years, was born and bred in Manchester. She worked as a chef and then a traffic warden before transitioning to a career in care and joining Anchor Hanover as a care assistant.
Angela Brown, Manager at Anchor’s Hatton Grange care home, said:
We’re all so proud of Jo and what she has accomplished. It’s fantastic to see her go out of her comfort zone and commit to this challenge, while also raising money for such an important cause. It’s always wonderful to see the different things members of our care team do outside of work. It goes to show you just how diverse the care sector workforce is.
