Anchor care homes to open doors for World Cup Socials during Care Home Open Week

Care homes across the North, including in Leeds and Newcastle, are inviting local people to come together and enjoy the football this summer as they host World Cup Socials during Care Home Open Week (15 – 21 June).

Homes will open their doors for England’s first game against Croatia on Wednesday 17 June, welcoming older people - particularly those who may otherwise be watching alone - to join residents and colleagues for the match in a friendly, social setting.

The initiative is part of our Year of Culture programme in partnership with NAPA Activities, helping to reduce loneliness and create opportunities for meaningful social connection.

As part of the celebrations, each home will also take part in a World Cup-style sweepstake, with residents assigned a competing nation. Throughout the tournament, homes will host themed activities inspired by their country, including food, music and cultural events.

Alongside the football, our homes will also be celebrating cultures from around the world through food, music and activities, helping to create a real sense of belonging for everyone involved.
