Joyce Jacobs shares her secret to long life
Joyce Jacobs, a resident of The Beeches care home, recently celebrated her 100th birthday
To mark the special occasion, Joyce enjoyed a tea party with the care team, fellow residents and her essential caregiver at the care home where she has lived since 2020. Joyce also received a telegram from the Queen, and a video message from local Councillor Chris Hunt wishing her a happy birthday.
Joyce was a keen rambler and met her husband whilst enjoying this past time. In fact, when asked her secret to a long life, she said: “Walking and fresh air keeps you young!”
The youngest of four children, Joyce grew up in Finsbury Park in London and worked in the Post Office until she retired. She recalls the roof of her house being blown off during the Blitz and being evacuated to Yorkshire during the Second World War. Now the telegram she has received brings back more joyful memories of watching the Queen’s coronation with her sisters.
Michelle Daniels, Manager of The Beeches care home, said:
Joyce is a lovely person. She always likes to take part in the activities are the home and is much loved by residents and the care team. It was great to celebrate this special milestone with her.
We enjoy sharing special milestones and experiences with our residents, ensuring they’re getting the most out of later life.
