Care home residents across Yorkshire model creative hats in dementia charity fundraiser
Residents across care homes in Yorkshire have been creating and modelling their own unique hats to help raise money for dementia charity Dementia Forward.
Residents at Firth House Care Home, The Manor House Knaresborough and The Manor House Harrogate took part in Hat Day during Dementia Action Week (18–24 May), supporting fundraising efforts for the charity, which provides support for people living with dementia across North Yorkshire.
Hat Day, organised by Dementia Forward, aims to bring communities together, encourage conversations around dementia, and raise funds to ensure support and resources remain available for those who need them.
Across the homes, residents enjoyed designing, decorating and wearing their hats, with many gathering outdoors to showcase their creations and enjoy the sunny weather together.
Anchor Community Partnership Manager David Wood said:
Last year was the first year our homes had participated in Hat Day, and the residents had such fun that it’s now become a firm fixture in our activity calendar.
We have worked with Dementia Forward throughout the year and appreciate the support they have given us, so we’re happy to promote the great work that they do. Residents and colleagues have really enjoyed making their hats and showcasing their creativity.
Our care homes are very much part of their communities and activities or getting involved with local charities help our residents maintain important bonds and relationships with other people and groups in the area. You can find out more about our approach to wellness and activity here.
