Anchor publishes Environmental Sustainability and Net Zero Carbon Strategy
We all have a role to play in tackling climate change, protecting the environment and creating a sustainable future.
In order to halt climate change, we need to make a significant shift in how we live our lives over the next few years, speeding up progress along the pathway to meet net zero carbon by 2050 whilst also protecting our precious natural environment.
As England’s largest provider of housing and care for older people, Anchor want to enable current and future generations to love living in later life. We are publishing our Environmental Sustainability and Net Zero Strategy (2023-26) today, setting out our climate commitments and actions:
- We will be making our residents’ homes more energy efficient so that they use less energy to stay warm in winter and cool in summer:
- All new homes will be designed to Net Zero from 2023 onwards, with delivery on site not falling below our Green Line minimum standard;
- All of our rented homes will reach a minimum efficiency level of EPC C or above by 2030;
- All of our care homes will reach a minimum energy efficiency level of EPC C or above by 2028;
- We will be Net zero ready in our business operations by 2030; and
- We will reach net zero across all carbon scopes including our supply chain by 2050.
As well as our efforts to measurably cut carbon emissions, we will support residents and colleagues in living well, reducing our impact on the environment, reducing waste and pollution, and improving green spaces and biodiversity.
Sarah Jones, Anchor Chief Executive Officer, said:
This strategy continues Anchor’s commitment to sustainability in each area of its business, building on progress we’ve made already and setting out a clear pathway to reduce our climate footprint whilst providing affordable, high-quality homes, services and care for older people, who I know are passionately committed to protecting our planet for future generations.
Liz Davenport, Anchor’s Property Sustainability Director, said:
We all want a planet that can sustain healthy lives for ourselves and future generations. Thank you to all the residents and colleagues who have already been involved in developing Anchor’s Environmental Sustainability and Net Zero Carbon Strategy. This strategy shows Anchor’s commitment in continuing to walk along the pathway to sustainability, setting clear and challenging targets to meet the needs of our current and future residents.
