98-year-old Hanover Court resident celebrates publication of third book
Residents, families and friends gathered at Hanover Court in Elmswell, near Bury St Edmunds, to celebrate an incredible milestone as 98-year-old resident Winifred (Freddie) Montgomery published her third book.
Known to everyone as Freddie, she has published A Walk Through Time: Berlin 1948, a first-hand account of post-war Berlin brought to life through a collection of photographs she took at the time. The book follows the success of her second title, The Life of a Girl Called Fred, which was published last year.
To mark the occasion, Hanover Court hosted a book signing attended by residents, their families, colleagues and members of the local community. Fellow residents helped spread the word by putting up posters around the village, ensuring plenty of people came along to celebrate Freddie's latest achievement.
A former vicar, Freddie continued in ministry until the age of 90 and has spent a lifetime writing. Her work has previously formed part of the BBC's educational archives and, now at 98 years old, she remains as passionate about storytelling as ever. Her warmth, humour and enthusiasm continue to inspire those around her at Hanover Court.
Freddie Montgomery, author and resident at Hanover Court, said:
It was wonderful to celebrate with so many familiar and beloved faces here at Hanover Court. Writing has always been my way of making sense of the world and sharing the things I have been fortunate enough to witness and experience. I hope that anyone who reads this book feels transported back to that time, as I did when I wrote it. There is always another story worth telling, and I feel very lucky to still be telling mine.
Samantha Boulton, Location Manager at Hanover Court, said:
Freddie is an absolute inspiration to everyone here at Hanover Court. She has led the most extraordinary life and her energy, wit and passion for writing are infectious. Seeing our residents, their families and the wider community come together to celebrate her achievement was a really special moment.
