Resident goes above and beyond, winning covid-19 champ in awards

A Folkestone resident has been named COVID-19 Champ as part of a national awards celebrating living in later life.

Len Henry, resident of Hanover House housing scheme, won our Loving Later Life Resident Awards in the COVID-19 Champ category for providing support and encouragement to others during the pandemic.

The Loving Later Life Resident Awards recognise the achievements of people living in later life and residents who make a real difference to their neighbours. A Resident Judging Panel chose winners from over 160 nominations across six categories. Winners were announced by Anchor’s Chief Executive, Jane Ashcroft CBE, at our Wellbeing Fayre and received certificates to acknowledge their win, as well as £100 in gift vouchers each.

Len was nominated for going above and beyond to support his neighbours through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Len helped his neighbours at Hanover House housing scheme by shopping for those who were isolating or shielding, often throughout the day and into the early evening. He showed great generosity by buying treats for neighbours to perk up their days and once pubs opened, he took them on trips making sure they stayed safe throughout.

Len was nominated for the award by Angie Martin, resident of Hanover House. Angie recognised Len’s kindness and desire to help others before the pandemic started and was even more encouraged by his generosity once the pandemic began. When Angie broke her wrist, Len helped her with shopping and cleaning and even surprised her with her favourite takeaway and coffee. Angie said:

Len is such a kind and generous person and thoroughly deserves this award! I’m pretty sure he will use his prize to give someone less fortunate a treat and make their day!
