Special guest plants Jubilee tree at Thameside care home
Thameside care home welcomed local MP, Rt Hon Dominic Raab, to a tree planting and garden party celebration in honour of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Mr Raab planted the tree, with assistance from residents Brenda Brett and James Saward on Wednesday 1 June. The residents and care team at Thameside all attended the event, as did several guests and members of the community, as well as Anchor’s Executive Director of Property and Assets, John Westwood.
Guests then celebrated the upcoming Jubilee with a royal finger buffet with strawberries and cream to finish. Residents also enjoyed activities such as a street party with singing, dancing, and a few fun games such as “Pin the Diamond on the Crown” during the Jubilee weekend.
Rt Hon Dominic Raab MP, said:
It was a pleasure to visit Thameside care home today to help to plant the home’s Jubilee tree and to meet with residents and staff.
The Platinum Jubilee is a time for the whole nation to celebrate the incredible public service of Her Majesty the Queen over the last 70 years and it is great to see organisations such as Anchor arranging events to mark this extraordinary milestone.
Brenda, who has lived at Anchor’s Thameside care home for two years said:
Thank you so much to Mr Raab for helping to plant our Jubilee tree! I can’t believe it’s been 70 years since Her Majesty became Queen, I remember watching her Coronation like it was yesterday!
She’s always been an incredible ambassador for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
Sarah Hurse, Activities Champion at Thameside, added:
It’s lovely that we’ll be celebrating such a historic occasion with our residents and we’re very honoured to have our local MP, Rt Hon Dominic Raab with us as well! We had a lovely time sharing our memories and celebrate her Majesty the Queen’s reign!
We’re so happy to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee - even though she’s royalty, we all feel like we’ve grown up with her. We always love celebrating special events and occasions at Anchor’s Thameside care home and supplying a wide variety of meaningful activities as they help our residents’ wellbeing and mental health.
