Skelton Court to mark anniversary with Status Quo celebration
Skelton Court care home is appealing for rock giant Status Quo’s fans who attended a gig by the band on the site of the home 25 years ago to come forward with pictures, memories and footage of it.
Skelton Court is marking its first anniversary of opening by holding a celebration event at 1pm on Monday 8 April linking the landmark date for the home to when Status Quo played at the former Hollybush pub in 1999, where Skelton Court now stands.
And in advance of the event, the home wants anyone who was at the gig to send in photographs, footage and any memories of the gig to [email protected] or to bring them along on the day.
The room that the celebration event will take place in at the home has been branded as the Hollybush Bar which means an authentic anniversary is planned with Glynis Peacock from Age UK Teesside performing Status Quo favourites as residents boogie the night away. Glynis regularly performs at the home’s dementia tea dances.
Status Quo played the Hollybush as part of a tour of ten pubs across the country to support the release of the then newly-released Under The Influence album, leading to one of the UK’s biggest rock bands playing for fans in intimate settings.
The pub was demolished in 2018 after being auctioned off by its former owners. Community Partnership Manager David Wood said:
Skelton Court has now been open for one year and it’s been a fantastic first year for the home. We’ve made some amazing memories here for the residents and have some wonderful community connections.
Even before the home opened, we were aware of the history of the Hollybush Pub and the famous night they had with Status Quo back in 1999.
It was such a big night for the local community that we felt we had to acknowledge this on its 25th anniversary. We’re really looking forward to the celebration and having a good singalong to some Status Quo classics!
Located near Saltburn-by-the-Sea in the market town of Skelton-in-Cleveland, Skelton Court offers first class residential and dementia care for up to 65 residents.
