The Manor House Knaresborough care home launches Hug Adoption Hub
The Manor House in Knaresborough set the Hug Adoption Hub up following a fun conversation with one of the home’s residents.
The idea is to find “forever homes” for the toys, which come with a unique name and personality lovingly created by residents – who have enjoyed being part of the Hub.
A total of 37 soft toys have already been adopted and the idea has led to smiles, conversations and thoughtful gift ideas.
The home has been encouraging further engagement by accepting clean, pre-loved soft toy donations. Residents, families and Anchor colleagues can adopt a toy for just £2 making for a wonderful thoughtful gift for children and adults alike.
Any money raised goes to the residents’ fund to pay for trips.
The Manor House’s Activities Co-ordinator Katie Pickering said:
We thought the Hub was a lovely idea as it is a bit different and more inclusive as it involves everyone.
We had a jokey chat with a resident about them finding someone tall, dark and handsome for Valentine’s Day and they laughed and described themselves as “pre-loved” – and that is when inspiration struck.
Each soft toy has a special tag with its name and personality, just waiting to find their perfect match.
Every soft toy is more than a gift – they are a thoughtful way to show love and care no matter what the age of the recipient is.
Katie adds:
It’s a wonderful way to rehome these cuddly companions, giving them a second chance to make someone smile. A hug never goes out of fashion!
The Hub was officially “opened” by Bailey, The Manor House’s very own therapy dog.
