Leofric Lodge residents win Coventry Christmas cake competition

Residents from Leofric Lodge in Coventry have emerged victorious in a Christmas cake making competition.

Residents living at Leofric Lodge won Anchor’s Coventry Christmas Cake Competition with a three-tiered Christmas cake decorated with handmade fondant snowmen and featuring the names of everyone that helped make it.

The competition was hosted at Wyken Court. Residents from other Anchor care location nearby came with the cakes they made to see who would take home the title of best Christmas cake.

A team of Anchor colleagues then picked the best Christmas cake based on taste, presentation, and resident involvement. In the end, they all agreed that Leofric Lodge residents had made the best of all the cakes, with Anchor’s Henry Court and Godiva Lodge taking second and third place. 

Everyone at Leofric Lodge was overjoyed by their win. For having the best cake, the home took back a trophy and some delicious chocolates. Residents Peter McCormack and Kay Hopper were overjoyed at winning the competition. Peter said:

I’m a big fan of Christmas cake decorating and making so I was really excited when I heard there was a Christmas cake competition. I never thought we’d win though, it’s absolutely brilliant.

Kay said:

I’ve always enjoyed decorating cakes, almost as much as I enjoy eating them. I really enjoy the baking sessions at Anchor’s Leofric Lodge, so it was a really nice way to get into the holiday spirit.

Kelly Adams, Home care Manager of Anchor’s Leofric Lodge, said:

Activities such as baking, and cake decorating are a firm favourite among our residents at Anchor’s Leofric Lodge. We’re all delighted that our cake won this year’s Christmas cake competition. It is nice to have this competition as a way of boosting the Christmas spirit. While the cake decorating is an important part of our festivities we’re also looking forward to celebrating Christmas together and focusing on traditions our customers enjoy.
