Anchor opens Piers Lodge development in Essex

Anchor has officially opened Piers Lodge, an affordable housing development in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, providing 84 new homes for people aged 55 and over.

The development offers a mix of 52 two-bedroom Older Persons Shared Ownership apartments and 32 one-bedroom social rent apartments, giving people different options for finding a home that suits their circumstances.

Delivered in partnership with McCarthy & Stone, Piers Lodge includes a range of communal spaces designed to support residents to enjoy an active and connected later life. These include a residents’ lounge, landscaped gardens, a café and a wellbeing service.

Anchor marked the opening with a special ceremony attended by colleagues and representatives from McCarthy & Stone, Southend Council and Homes England.

Located on the Essex coast, Southend-on-Sea is around 40 miles east of London and is known for its seafront, beaches and famous pier. The city is also well connected to London, with trains reaching central London in around an hour.

Apartments at Piers Lodge are available through social rent and the Government-backed Older Persons Shared Ownership scheme. The scheme offers an alternative route into home ownership for people aged 55 and over who may not be able to afford to buy a suitable home outright.
