Anchor colleagues work together to organise special holiday for resident
Nigel Simpson, a resident of Larchfield care home in Leeds, went on an invigorating seaside holiday 75 miles away thanks to the organisational efforts of Anchor colleagues.
Nigel was able to join his sister Philippa on holiday after Anchor colleagues linked up with the Skelton Court care home on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.
The 61-year-old was overjoyed at being able to take the break at the suggestion of Larchfield’s manager Anita Goodfellow.
Anita liaised with Skelton Court’s Manager Beverley Grimes to enable Nigel to go on the refreshing break.
Nigel and Philippa travelled up to Skelton together with colleagues from both homes helping them along the way as they travelled to the North Sea coast.
Nigel enjoyed some fun activities including a chance to go into Whitby and Hartlepool as well as some sightseeing and walks along the seafront.
In particular, Nigel enjoyed visiting Hartlepool’s National Museum of the Royal Navy and getting some tasty fudge from the famous seaside shops at Whitby.
The pair also got to experience some local history by visiting the Land of Iron at Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum at Skinningrove.
In addition to all their fun maritime adventures, Nigel and Philippa also socialised with the team and residents at Anchor’s Skelton Court and learned about their lives and life at the home. A big highlight included regular visits from Tilly, the pet Labrador of Team Leader Debbie Bunney.
Nigel was delighted with his holiday, saying:
It was so lovely to stay at Skelton Court! I really enjoyed meeting everyone and had a lot of fun with them. It was wonderful to spend time visiting the seaside and seeing all the sights in Whitby and Hartlepool too.
Philippa said:
It’s been great that we’ve been able to have a holiday together. This was all made possible by Anchor, and I’d like to say a huge thank you to Skelton Court which is a wonderful home and so welcoming to both Nigel and I.
Beverley Grimes said:
We really enjoyed having Nigel stay with us. He told us how excited he and his sister were to have a holiday in this part of the world and when Anita at Anchor’s Larchfield got in touch we were delighted to help! We hope Nigel enjoyed his stay with us and he’s more than welcome to come back again whenever he likes.
