Care home praised by care regulator

A care home from West Byfleet has further improved on its outstanding rating from regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Staff at Anchor’s West Hall off Parvis Road were celebrating this week after being told that the care they provide had been rated outstanding in three of the five categories.

Only 3.3% of care homes across England are rated outstanding, and West Hall continues to be among the top care homes in the country. Even fewer outstanding care homes improve on their CQC rating.

Previously, the home had received outstanding ratings in two categories: the service being responsive and caring. In their latest report, the inspectors also praised Manager Tracy Manzi, classing her leadership as outstanding.

Anchor, which runs West Hall, has seven other outstanding rated care homes which means 7.3% of its care homes have received the top rating. It is the care provider the largest number of outstanding homes in the country.

West Hall, which cares for 104 residents, was praised by the CQC under their new robust inspection process.

Care homes and retirement properties are now classed as either outstanding, good, requiring improvement or inadequate.

Manager Tracy said everyone at the care home was thrilled because they had worked so hard to further improve the outstanding standards of care there.

She said: “We all know West Hall is a great place for older people to live but to further improve on our outstanding rating is such a rare achievement.

“We are proud of the care we provide, of the meals which are made from fresh seasonal ingredients and of the wide variety of meaningful activities enjoyed by our residents.

“We welcome such rigorous inspections and clear ratings so older people and their families can see which homes or retirement properties are the best in the country.”

Resident John Ryan, 84, who has lived at West Hall for five years, said: “It was no surprise to me that West Hall was classed as outstanding.

“I love living here because there is always so much to do. The staff are all amazing. The activities and entertainment are top notch.

“We are surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens. I’ve lived in a few of the Anchor care homes and this one is truly the best. I shall be happy here for the rest of my life.”
