Skelton Court couple enjoy Valentine's Day together

Anchor residents Ernest and Kathleen Thomas have celebrated Valentine’s Day together 65 years after he asked her for the last dance of the night in 1960!  

Ernie is now 86 and Kath is 83 and they live happily at Skelton Court near Saltburn by the Sea.

They met on a memorable January night at a dance at the Coatham Hotel in Redcar in 1960.

After Ernie successfully asked Kath for the last dance of the night, they shared the last bus home together. Ernie walked Kath to her door – before a long walk back to his own.

They were engaged by the July and got married in October 1962. They lived in Middlesbrough where they had three children including two daughters and one son.

Skelton Court Home Manager Antony Griffiths said:

Ernie and Kath are two of our treasured residents and it was wonderful to see them enjoy Valentine’s Day together after such a long and happy married life.
