Residents reminisce about Queen's coronation and celebrate Jubilee
Residents at The Ridings care home shared their memories of the Queen’s Coronation at a special garden party, in honour of her Platinum Jubilee.
Residents hosted members of the local community, family and friends for a day of fun and reminiscing about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Monday 6 June.
Attendees enjoyed a visit from local entertainer Bill James and dancing with the finalists of the Banbury Strictly Come Dancing competition, Debbie & Troy, to mark the special day. Guests and residents also enjoyed a buffet lunch to mark the occasion as well!
Frederick Henderson, who has lived at The Ridings care home for five years said:
I had only been married for five years and decided to buy a 12” model black and white television so we could watch the Coronation. We had all our family and friends around to watch it on the new TV. I remember watching the crowds in London covering all the streets and the cheers and the waving of the flags and the length of the Queen’s coach! The parade was full of soldiers in full uniform.
The actual Coronation in the Abbey was something to talk about with all the Royal Family and the representatives from all countries from around the world.. It really was something to behold! We never thought that we would be watching the Queen on the throne 70 years later!
Anna Jakes, Manager of The Ridings added:
It’s lovely that we were able to celebrate such a historic occasion with our residents and got to bring friends, family and the local community together for it. Everyone at The Ridings loved sharing their memories and celebrate her Majesty the Queen’s reign!
We’re so happy to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee - even though she’s royalty, we all feel like we’ve grown up with her. We always love celebrating special events and occasions at The Ridings and supplying a wide variety of meaningful activities as they help our residents’ wellbeing and mental health.
