I have friends that are resident in Timken Grange Care home, Duston. Some of my friends have been resident over 5 years, the last one John a resident the past three weeks, he loves being looked after by the carers. Visiting the care home gives my life structure and takes away some of the loneliness. When entering the care home you are greeted wi… th a smile from Jane or Kim, both ladies have a pleasing manner. The care home is spotlessly clean and unlike other homes that I have visited does not have any unpleasant odours. The activities in the care home are many and varied. One most popular are the hymn singing, carpet bowls, and poetry club where residents compose their own poems and read them out.I have found the meals at the Grange very good, made with fresh produce and served hot. Being a visitor over 65 yrs and live alone I get invited to Sunday lunch which I appreciate and look forward to. In short I would become a resident of the Grange in Louise the Manageress's excellent care.

My mother has Alzheimer's and had a negative experience at a previous care home once her illness progressed and she needed additional assistance with personal care as her communication abilities affect her behaviour when frightened and confused. Louise and her team were breath of fresh air. They saw a lady with difficulty and confusion not an i… nconvenience and worked at getting to know her and adapted her care as an individual. This has allowed her to form close bonds with the staff. As a family navigating this scary path they were so very supportive particularly to my father and reassuring that what was happening to Mum was not unusual. Mum loves music and her sense of rhythm remains strong although she may not be able to join in with all the activities she is encouraged to be close so is included. We as a family have no hesitation in recommending Timken Grange.

For just over 1 year now, we have received nothing but helpful, considerate and friendly service from a wide group of staff and management a like. Communication has been good when needed and the care provided has been of a very good standard. Thank you to all concerned, making this transition into a care home for our mother much easier for us.

When I first walked into Timken Grange it was obvious this was a happy place to be with high levels of staff morale. The interaction between staff and residents was relaxed and friendly. The activities board isn't just there for show - activities and trips out are available if the residents want to participate. Residents are encouraged to take part… to reach their full potential. Visitors are welcomed and every Friday there is a joint gathering where visitors and residents meet for a chat over cakes sand hot drinks. Before retiring I worked in a mental health rehabilitation unit as a senior instructor so I'm used to assessing work atmospheres. I'm grateful to ALL the staff at Timken Grange, both frontline carers and others who keep the place running, for their care which they give to my wife now I can no longer give her the quality of life she deserves. May your God always be with you.

Mum has been in the care home for over five years and during that time enjoyed outings and taking part in many different activities. Mum was a great cook and one year they helped her make and decorate her own Christmas cake,. She was always treated with kindness and respect. She often teased and had a laugh with the carers and they understood her p… ersonality and showed a genuine goodness for her. During the past few months when mum's health started to decline the staff have been supportive and caring, giving regular updates and support when we visited. They made sure she still looked nice and had her nails done, something she was very particular about. During her final days they sat with her when we were not there, chatting away and playing music. Sadly mum died a week ago, again the staff were supportive and kind, and saddened by her death. I would like to thank all the management and carers for making mum's time at the home a happy one.

There are some wonderful staff who go way beyond expectations. You are always able to speak with the carers and management. A big thank you for the care and love yo… u give.

To start your enquiry simply click 'Enquire now' at the top of the page and either call us or complete an online enquiry form.

We know only too well how daunting and emotional the decisions are for everyone when considering care, which is why our team are here to help every step of the way.

We’ll provide you with full details of the home, along with any other information you’d like, such as sample menus and activity schedules, as well as explain how you can arrange a viewing.

Whether you’re looking to stay with us permanently, or for a short break, we’d be delighted to take you on a show round of the home in person. Simply book a visit with the home manager once you’ve made your enquiry.

If you or your loved one doesn’t live nearby or are unable to visit in person we can provide a virtual show round. Either way, we’re keen to show you what daily life is like here and for you to meet our friendly team.

We hope you decide, following your visit, that you or your loved one would like to move into the home, in which case we’ll organise a pre-assessment to make sure we can meet all your care needs.

Guide to visiting a care home for the first time

Visiting a care home is one of the most important steps in deciding whether it’s the right place for you or your loved one. In our homes we will ensure your visit will be welcoming, informative and reassuring, so you can feel confident about your choice. To help you get the most from your time visiting our homes, we've written an easy to follow online guide to visiting a care home.

We hope you decide, following your visit, that you or your loved one would like to move into the home, in which case we’ll organise a pre-assessment to make sure we can meet all your care needs.

You may already have had a care needs assessment from the local authority and have a care plan in place which can be a useful starting point for our conversations, so we will ask about these. Our pre-assessment is a chance for us to find out more about you, the challenges you face and the way you like to live your life. It's a conversation about how our team could work with you to support your needs, independence, and wellbeing.

Once you are confident in your choice of new home, our friendly onsite teams will discuss every aspect of moving-in with you in detail to make sure you know exactly what to expect.

This way you can feel confident, safe and welcomed in the knowledge that you or your loved one will be happy and supported in your new home.

Before you move in, we will find out if there are any of your possessions that you wish us to place in your room before you arrive. Please bring your family photographs and most treasured possessions to help make your room your home.

Our care homes are dedicated to helping our residents maintain links in the local area and with their loved ones. We understand how important visits are to help your loved one settle in and we welcome regular visits from family and friends.

We also actively support residents living with us to enjoy visits away from their new home into the local area and to nearby places of interest.

Each of our homes is different and the manager of the care home you’re interested in will provide all the information you need around visiting.
