Residents across Cornwall celebrate the festive season in style
Residents and colleagues at Anchor care homes across Cornwall are embracing the festive spirit in style.
From crafting Christmas decorations and singing carols, to decorating trees and baking festive treats, each activity is bringing smiles, laughter and a sense of togetherness. These celebrations are a wonderful reminder of the positive impact creativity and community can have on people’s wellbeing during the festive season.
St Anne’s and Kimberley Court care homes kicked off their festive celebrations with their spectacular Christmas lights switch-ons. The annual tradition is a much-loved moment in the lead-up to Christmas, bringing joy to residents and the local community. Residents have also been busy creating their own decorations to hang on their care homes’ Christmas trees.
Festive excitement has been spreading throughout St Anne’s in Saltash with a jam-packed programme of activities happening every morning and afternoon throughout December. The home is filled with festive musical cheer, with residents, colleagues and their families taking part in Christmas singalongs and watching performances from local entertainers, including The Singing Gardener and Stevens.
A true highlight of this year's festivities was the visit from the children at Izzy’s Nursery, where residents and local children joined in a cheerful sing-along to some Christmas classics. Residents have loved the outings that the home have put on for them including a trip to the local Garden Centre and to Plymouth & Saltash to see the Christmas lights.
Lisa Honeywell, Home Manager at St Anne’s, says:
Our festive activities bring such warmth and happiness to our residents, filling each day with something to look forward to. From singalongs to arts and crafts and magical trips out, the joy on our residents’ faces has said it all. These shared experiences have brought comfort, laughter and a real sense of family to St Anne’s.
Coral, resident at St Anne’s, says:
I’m really enjoying every moment of the Christmas celebrations here at St Anne’s – there’s been something different and exciting for all of us to join in with. Seeing the children from Izzy’s Nursery sing was such a delight, and all the crafts, music and outings have truly put me in the festive spirit. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s made this time feel so joyful and special.
We are proud of the real community feel each of our care homes have, where people interact with fellow residents, families and friends, and are supported to continue doing all the things they enjoy. Christmas is a special time of year for so many reasons and colleagues always take this great opportunity to organise some extra special activities. Find out more about our approach to wellness here.
