Maple the dog wins Pet of the Month award
A dog who is a regular visitor to Wetherby Manor care home has won an award for bringing joy and companionship to residents.
Two-year-old Maple has become a beloved figure at Wetherby Manor care home when she visits with her owner Bethany Watson, a Care assistant at the home.
Every week, Bethany brings Maple in to play with the residents and cuddle up in the living room as well! She has become a delightful companion to the residents and Bethany’s colleagues who all enjoy making a fuss over her.
Maple’s antics have become so popular, that she was named Anchor’s pet of the month for August after news of the joy she was bringing to Wetherby Manor spread far and wide!
Bethany said:
Maple is such a wonderful dog. She’s my best friend and truly special to me and everyone she meets! She’s a wonderful little ball of energy and loves visiting Wetherby Manor and the residents love her! Maple is known best for digging the garden up, eating spiders and being amazing around people and other animals.
I love having Maple with me and it’s lovely to see how much joy she brings everyone. Animals make for wonderful companions and it’s great that Anchor’s Wetherby Manor is so pet friendly!
Caroline Byron, Manager of Wetherby Manor care home, said:
Maple’s an absolute star. She's a lovely dog and really makes everyone’s day when she comes to visit!
We love animals like Maple at Wetherby Manor. Studies have shown that the health of our residents improves when they interact with animals. Some of our residents have their own pets too, but we also have regular visits from the pets of colleagues and other visitors too.
Wetherby Manor has a pet friendly policy which encourages older people to bring pets with them when they move in. Recently, we were awarded the Gold standard from the RSPCA at their annual PawPrints Award for continuing to support pet-owning residents at their properties.
