Hair aficionado becomes salon assistant at St Edith’s Court
St Edith’s Court care home in Leigh-on-sea has a special new assistant at the in-house hair salon.
Resident Joan Wilder, 91, is a former hairdresser and during her career had her own salon in Rayleigh. Her haircare knowledge was noticed by the care team who asked Joan if she would like to help out at the hair salon, and Joan jumped at the chance.
Joan is a popular figure at the salon, helping to organise bookings and helping out where she can with some of the haircuts.
Joan is delighted to be working in the salon, and said:
“I’ve loved working with hair all my life and all my friends at St Edith’s Court have been coming to me for tips on what they should do with their hair when they go to the salon. Getting a chance to help out at the salon is great fun and a lovely trip down memory lane!”
Jane Moulder, Wellness Coordinator at St Edith’s Court, said:
“It’s great to have Joan helping in the salon at St Edith’s Court. She’s always been very keen on giving out hair care tips to anyone who asks and it’s an absolute joy to see how much she loves it!
“She has done some great work helping already and I can say for a fact that Joan has a lot of haircare skills as she did an absolutely incredible job on mine and my colleague’s hair!”
