Colleagues unveil intriguing truffle flavours for in-house competition
Chefs and colleagues from several of our care homes went head-to-head in a truffle baking competition. They showcased their creative flair and came up with some mouth-watering and interesting truffle flavours – even a haggis flavoured truffle was proposed.
The competition was hosted at Herries Lodge and the truffles were then judged by a panel of lucky colleagues. In total, a selection of 27 different flavoured truffles were presented before the panel. Each truffle was judged on presentation and taste.
After an hour and a half of judging, the winner was finally declared. Minnie Davies from Hatfield House won with a milk chocolate and Oreo truffle. Becky Lomas came second with a dark chocolate and raspberry flavour; Gill Fletcher came third with a brandy and salted caramel truffle and Victoria McCann came fourth with a mint chocolate truffle. The winner and runners up were treated to some chocolates that were kindly donated by Bidfood.
Herries Lodge also prepared an afternoon tea style buffet for residents and judges. While the judges were busy judging the truffle entries, residents enjoyed a tea tasting session and entertainment from local entertainer Russell Weaver.
Although the truffles were mainly enjoyed by colleagues, our chefs do not only cater to their sugar cravings. Meals are prepared for residents using fresh ingredients and are tailored to individual needs and tastes. Our chefs cook seasonal dishes, and the creation of new menus is heavily influenced by resident feedback. This makes mealtimes in our care homes enjoyable and something to look forward to every day.
