Special guest opens gardens at Meadow Court
Meadow Court, a retirement community in Southampton, welcomed local MP Rt Hon Suella Braverman QC, and Cllr Simon Martin of Fareham Borough Council, to open the resident’s gardens this week.
Residents have been hard at work preparing the gardens which include two new raised allotments. They have already started coordinating which plants are grown, including courgettes, berries, and a variety of lettuces, and are looking forward to enjoying the fruits of their own labour.
To mark the official opening, Rt Hon Suella Braverman QC MP cut a ceremonial ribbon and a plaque was unveiled to mark the occasion. The residents and local guests then enjoyed the gardens with some light refreshments.
Phillip Hulme, Sales Director said:
We were honoured to welcome our local MP, Suella Braverman QC to Meadow Court and unveil our new communal gardens. Encouraging community spirit and promoting health and wellbeing is core to Anchor’s values, and communal gardens encompass this. Gardening is therapeutic for many people, and having a relaxed, communal space to garden is something that all our residents appreciate.
Rt Hon Suella Braverman QC MP said:
I was delighted to open the new resident’s garden at Anchor’s Meadow Court. The residents have done a fine job preparing this space which will form an integral part of the vibrant community at the location. Spaces such as the residents garden provide spaces for relaxation and an array of activities which are vital for older people’s mental and physical health and wellbeing.
John Donovan has lived at Meadow Court since 2019 and is Chairman of the Resident's Garden Club. He said:
At Anchor’s Meadow court we're surrounded by lots of green trees, lawned gardens, flower borders and wide-open space. This, for many, is one of the key reasons for choosing to live here. In addition, Anchor has provided us with several large, raised planters and a useful storage shed. This has enabled the formation of a Resident's Garden Club which, with an expanding membership, is currently growing an ambitious variety of vegetables.
We are grateful to our local MP Rt Hon Suella Braverman QC for coming to open our beautiful gardens. It's an important occasion for us and we look forward to inviting her back from time to time so she can see how this wonderful location is evolving.
