Resident enjoys special birthday and shares secret to long life
Southport resident Edna Baker celebrated turning 100 on Friday 23 September at a party with friends and relatives.
Centenarian Edna blew out her candles at the party held for her at Thomas Henshaw Court care home in Southport where she has lived for 18 months.
Edna was born in Liverpool and married in 1946. Before she retired, Edna worked in a shop and then joined the army doing various jobs but mainly working in a bakery. She is now a proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren. Of her favourite memories, the two times she travelled to Australia with her friend Joan really stand out. She also looks back fondly on Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation and enjoying a street party with her husband and two of her children.
When asked her secret to a long life, Edna said: “I never thought I would live this long. The secret to a long life is really enjoying the life you live.”
Alison Humphries, Manager of Thomas Henshaw Court care home, said:
Edna is a lovely person. She always likes to take part in the activities in the home. She especially loves days out, singalongs and gardening.
