Mary offers romantic advice to young valentines

Mary Tanner, who lives at Sandstones care home in Wallasey, said the secret to love is to say everything to each other and do not go to bed on an argument, resolve it first. 

Mrs Tanner, grandparent to 20 was married to her husband Stan for 70 of years. She enjoys reminiscing about their married life and their wedding at the Town Hall!

For young people looking for love, Mrs Tanner has some important advice:

You’ll have a successful relationship if you are honest with each other through good and bad times. Hold hands often and wave goodbye to each other when going out. 

My advice to young Valentines would be to listen to each other and always discuss issues and learn from them. Nobody is perfect so you need to learn to compromise. Be totally honest with each other and with all those you meet in life. Don’t be afraid to be honest with your feelings too! Valentine’s Day is a chance to show you care for someone you love, so do it!

Mrs Tanner will be joining her friends at Sandstones care home on Tuesday, 14 February for a day of Valentine’s themed activities.. These include a special Valentine’s Day lunch with love heart cookies & cakes, along with fun activities and live entertainment.

Skander Khayati Manager of Sandstones care home said the Valentine’s celebration is part of a packed programme of activities at the care home. He said:

We always look forward to Valentine’s Day here at Sandstones care home! Everyone always loves the feeling of love and the joy it brings, and we have so much fun doing activities! These events are also a great occasion for residents to socialise with friends and their families.

It’s lovely of Mrs Tanner to offer some advice about how to find romance! Older people have a lifetime of experience when it comes to love so they’re probably the best people to learn from if you’re looking to find that special someone or want to make your love last for a lifetime!
