Local care home calls on community to help decorate their Christmas tree

Linwoood care home in Thames Ditton is asking the local community to help them decorate their Christmas tree and join their Christmas light switch-on ceremony on Thursday 2 December between 2-4pm.

Residents and the care team of Linwood care home are encouraging members of the public to create their own unique decorations to trim the community Christmas tree which will be set up in front of the home.

The community is also invited to join the light switch-on ceremony which will take place on Thursday 2 December at 4pm. Festive treats and Anchor goodie bags will be available to attendees and the Mayor, Councillor Tony Popham, and Mayoress, Mrs Jo Wright, will be in attendance to turn on the lights.

The community Christmas tree and light switch-on was organised by the care team at Linwood to ensure that residents at the home can interact with the local community during the festive season in a safe environment. The tree will stay up for the entirety of the Christmas period for the public to enjoy.

Resident Rocchina Morris is excited for the Christmas tree to be up and decorated. She said:

I’m really looking forward to seeing all the decorations people bring to trim the tree. Christmas is one of my favourite times of year and I can’t wait to enjoy the festive spirit with people from the community.

In the run up to Christmas, Linwood is also hosting a Christmas Craft Competition. Members of the public are invited to design their own festive Christmas decorations and drop them at the home by Friday 3 December. Entries will be judged by residents who will be awarding prizes to their favourite decorations.

We’re really looking forward to having the community Christmas tree decorated. It’s a great way for our residents to interact with the local community and spread Christmas cheer.

The Christmas Craft Competition and light switch on ceremony are just two of the lovely things we have planned for our Christmas celebrations. Residents are also really looking forward to the Christmas Cake Decorating Competition and carol singing.
