Move Into Christmas
Christmas is always a special time of year at Anchor, when residents and colleagues come together to celebrate and make memories.
Each winter the people living and working with us look for fun ways to create magical Christmas experiences that support wellbeing, and in 2021 we added an exciting dance-tastic theme to our festive activities.
Move Into Christmas Dance
This Christmas we spread some festive glitter and celebrated the power of dance to boost wellbeing in a fun way with our #MoveIntoChristmas dance campaign.
Backed by BBC Strictly Come Dancing champion, radio and television presenter Ore Oduba, we created a special Christmas dance routine to the tune of Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, that aims to bring people together, and we asked everyone to give it a go.
Why dance this Christmas?
Our 2021 research found that dancing provides a great opportunity for people to start and maintain good fitness habits, with 65 per cent of older people seeing dancing as a fun and engaging way to keep fit.
But the benefits of dance also extend far beyond fitness; 73 per cent of older people recognise that dancing can benefit their mental health as it also brings joy and happiness.
After a challenging 18 months, in 2021 we were all looking forward to spending more quality time with our loved ones and at Anchor we believe initiatives that encourage bonding are crucial. Dancing has a unique way of uniting people, regardless of age, making it a perfect focus for festive fun.
Move Into Christmas and our accessible dance routine provided an inclusive way for the nation to come together and celebrate the holidays. It was inspired by Anchor’s residents and colleagues, and their love of dancing. We shared our dancing videos with you - and enjoyed seeing your interpretations across social media too!

Rocking around your Christmas tree
Putting up the Christmas tree is a much loved tradition, often enjoyed with some festive tunes and a mince pie or two.
Our residents and colleagues have been sharing photos and video clips of their lovingly dressed trees on social media - and want to see yours too!
When do you put your tree up - as soon as December begins or on Christmas Eve? Do you have a colour theme? Any favourite decorations - homemade or sentimental? And who gets to put the angel or star on the top in your home?
The Christmas tree is a great backdrop for your Move Into Christmas dance routines too, so share your messages of festive goodwill and snaps of loved ones rocking around your Christmas tree with us using the hashtag #MoveIntoChristmas.
Christmas cake competition
Our annual Christmas cake competition is always a much anticipated event that sees residents and colleagues from all our care homes demonstrating their creativity.
The theme for entries this year was ‘Glitz & Glamour’ and district finals took place 3 - 17 December with some magical entries. Take a look at our video below and prepare to be impressed!
